We Could Be Becoming Birders!?!?

Our original plan for today was to go to South Padre Island.  But the wind was crazy (and still is), so we thought it best to go somewhere else instead.  You can tell from the palm trees.

We settled on Bentsen State Park, which is another birding kind of place.  Not as much water, but still lots of birds.  It's south of Mission, which is about half an hour west of here.  At least we would get some walking in.

We saw this sign, but have to say, we didn't actually read it all.

This is a green jay, related to our blue jays, of course.

It's mine, all mine!

A southern cardinal.  A little brighter than ours.

Some other bird.

So are we becoming birders?  I took my telephoto lens today, so it sure helped getting decent shots.  I actually looked like a birder, sort of.

We are VERY close to the Mexican border so we saw lots of border patrol and police in the area.  In fact, this park we were in borders on the Rio Grande.  We didn't see it, but only because we didn't walk to it.

  1. I guess you need to embrace the retirement lifestyle by birding - and sit and tell stories to your grandchildren about the birds and squirrels :) (eh em Grammy Beaumont)

  2. OMG - not on your life. Well, who knows what the future will bring?
